‘Make time to read’

The Welsh Assembly Government is working towards raising the literacy standards of children in Wales aged 7-11.  The current focus has been on raising awareness amongst the parents, carers and grandparents of this target group.  An information leaflet has been produced called "Make time to read" and has been distributed widely across Wales .

Go to "Resources to use at home" page and click on "Literacy resources" for the relevant link to reading information from the Welsh Assembly Government.

Birchgrove Primary School is situated in the village of Birchgrove on the outskirts of the city of Swansea.

We put creativity at the heart of the curriculum and have developed a ‘listening to learners approach’ to  school improvement.

There is an established School Council, a School Safety Squad, a Learning group which provides input from the children into whole school developments and a parent consultation group.

There is a Forest school area within the grounds which is used extensively for learning by children across the school. Buddy classes provide support to the younger children and opportunities for the older children to learn with their younger peers.

Our school motto is -

"Always be the best

that you can be"

Our Golden Rules

We are gentle

We don’t hurt others

We are kind and helpful

We don’t hurt anybody’s feelings

We listen

We don’t interrupt

We are honest

We don’t cover up the truth

We work hard

We don’t waste our own or others’ time

We look after property

We don’t waste or damage things
